Could someone please help get started on this? I have looked for information on extracting and editing the maps in FFXI. I have tried ChangeTex, etc. but cannot seem get anything extracted to work on. For example, I wish to put my own mining points on the map for East Ronfaure. I cannot find what .dat file this is on (in fact, I haven't found any maps yet). I am not interested in 3D mods yet. Baby steps first.

Can someone post step-by-step instructions for extracting, editing, then re-creating the dat file. Also, info about the best tools to use for each of these steps would be greatly appreciated.

Try ffxidats. the place is closing down, but there's probably people trolling the forums for as long as it's still up. I think someone has even created a map pack with pretty white/light-blue/grey maps with all those burnt/moldy edges taken out and drop-offs clearly marked.

There's also a chance that when FileFront started deleting stored files, that it was hit. I haven't looked. If you just want to learn to make your own maps, you could probably find the creator and ask for some pointers.
